A volunteer has had a close shave in a bid to get cash rolling in for our Doncaster hospice.
Joe Threadgold, a volunteer driver at St John’s Hospice at Balby, had his specially grown beard and head shaved which raised £360 for the cause. He also raised extra cash by asking people to ‘guess the number of swipes’ to remove his beard and head of hair.
Hospice hairdresser Carol Robinson put her electric trimmer to the test, and took 153 ‘shaves’ to clear the facial hair and stubble!
In the past Joe and his wife Jan have organised bingo events to fundraise for the hospice – but this year Joe fancied something different.
Joe said: “Jan and myself raise money for the hospice as it’s a local charity and my wife and I have known several people who have received care and treatment here. It’s a great local appeal, which supports local people. I thoroughly enjoyed growing my beard and having my head shaved for such a great cause.”
Lindsey Richards, one of our St John’s Hospice fundraisers, said: “What a fantastic guy Joe is. Over the years Joe and his wife have raised so much money for us and we appreciate what they both do.”
