Volunteer Drive Launched

A volunteer drive has been launched in Rotherham, Doncaster and Scunthorpe as a local health trust celebrates the work volunteers do.

Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) has a display running about volunteering until June 8 in the WellBean Coffee Lounge, Tickhill Road Hospital, off Tickhill Road, Balby, Doncaster. But anyone who lives in Rotherham or North Lincolnshire are invited to contact the Trust’s volunteer champion, Carol Bowyer to find out more.

Carol, RDaSH’s Voluntary Services Manager, said: “Volunteering Week runs from June 1-7 and we’ve been using this time to thank our volunteers. On June 1 we had a dedicated afternoon tea to say ‘thank you’ to them, and we’re encouraging people who may consider volunteering to get in touch.

“Potential volunteers can either call into the coffee lounge or call or email me,” added Carol.

“Volunteering is vital to our organisation. Each year, dedicated volunteers of all ages and backgrounds selflessly devote their time to us. They find themselves carrying out a variety of tasks which help to support our staff and offer additional help and activities for service users.

“Our volunteers can be found in all parts of the Trust carrying out many different roles, which reflect their own particular skills and interests. These include helping out in art groups, driving patients to and from the hospital sites, providing trolley services to the wards and helping out in the cafés and gardens. Wherever they are and in whichever role they choose to offer their help, both the Trust and those who use our services are extremely grateful for the time that they give,” added Carol.

Joe Threadgold, a volunteer at St John’s Hospice in Doncaster, said: “I volunteer to give something back and to meet people.”
