Doncaster residents are being urged to Be Cancer Safe by calling into the Frenchgate Shopping Centre next week.
Staff from our Macmillan Living Well Cancer Information and Support Service will be outside the ‘Build A Bear’ store from Monday to Saturday, August 13 – 18 from 9am until 4.30pm
Staff will have information on a range of cancers, including breast, bowel, lung, cervical and prostate, and can offer information about the early signs and symptoms to be aware of, the screening programmes available, how to seek help and the support on offer for people with cancer and their families.
Our Macmillan Living Well Cancer Information and Support Service in Doncaster is part of Be Cancer Safe Project – a social movement across South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw and North Derbyshire which aims to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer and the opportunities for screening to increase the number of people diagnosed earlier.
Joanne O’Marr, Macmillan Living Well Cancer Information Service lead, said: “Our team will be in the shopping centre and are ready for any questions you may have about cancer and cancer screening.
“They will also be able to discuss the support on offer to patients and their families if cancer has been diagnosed, including advice about finance, emotional support, and practical help. Why not pop to see them while you’re doing your shopping, or if you have questions about cancer, go and have a chat. They will be only too happy to help and advise you.”
Councillor Nigel Ball, Doncaster Cabinet Member for Public Health, said; “Events like this are really important and help to raise awareness of how to spot the signs of cancer. The sooner it is identified, the sooner action can be taken.
“If you are concerned about any potential cancer symptoms you should contact your doctor straight away.”
