Woodlands staff pledge to support carers

Staff at a Rotherham hospital unit have pledged their support to carers by signing up to a national campaign.

Staff at The Woodlands, which is based behind Rotherham Hospital, Moorgate, and is for people aged 65 or over with mental health needs, have signed up to John’s Campaign, which shows they welcome working with patients’ loved ones.

John’s Campaign was founded in November 2015 and believes that carers should be welcomed and that collaboration between the patients and their carers is crucial to their health and wellbeing.

John’s Campaign applies to all hospital settings: acute, community and mental health and over 1000 institutions have pledged support so far.

The Woodlands is the latest hospital unit to sign up to the campaign at local health trust, Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).

Cheryl Watkinson, RDaSH’s Patient and Public Engagement and Experience Lead, said: “Carers play an extremely important role. We have always welcomed patients’ loved ones into the Trust, but by signing up to this national campaign it means we will involve patients family and friends even more in their care.”
