Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service
The Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service accepts referrals for patients with complex diabetes and needs, who require the assessment and advice from a specialist nurse. On referral to the service, a patient will be sent an appointment for a clinic and will receive an assessment from a diabetes specialist nurse. They will offer advice and treatment on the management of the person’s diabetes, including medication advice and lifestyle advice.
Doncaster Type 2 Information Education (DOTTIE)
The DOTTIE programme is delivered by a diabetes nurse in venues across Doncaster. People who have been diagnosed with diabetes are referred by their GP, practice nurse or hospital into the programme. When a referral is received the person is contacted via a letter and asked to ring the service to choose a location and time for the education. There is opportunity to attend the education with a family member or carer if appropriate. The education sessions run over two half days with the option to attend a full day session if preferred and provide a large range of information to the person on how to manage their diabetes effectively.
