Young people, With Me in Mind and Rotherham Utd have come together with one goal in mind, to encourage young people to talk about their wellbeing and ask for help if they have mental health worries or needs.
Pupils from Rockingham Junior and Infant School and Swinton Academy headed to New York Stadium recently, to interview footballers Cameron Dawson and Joe Powell, ahead of the launch of Mind Goals, which promotes that ‘asking for help is not a red card’.
With Me In Mind is our mental health support team that supports children and young people aged 5 to 19 in schools.
Gemma Thomas, Engagement Lead for With Me In Mind, who has been working in partnership with Madeline Dyson from Rotherham United Community Trust (RUCT), to deliver the campaign, said:
“We had conversations with young people, who told us that they would be more likely to come forward for mental health support if the key messages were shared by role models such as footballers and involved outdoor activities. It’s brilliant that Rotherham United Community Trust were more than happy to get on board with this campaign. Together we want to make sure that every young person knows that ‘mental health matters, you matter!”
The campaign will launch at New York Stadium on Tuesday 28 October with The Millers taking on Manchester City Under 21’s in a 7pm kick off. Staff from With Me In Mind and RUCT will be in the fan zone from 5pm to 7pm to share mental health information and activities. At half time a Mind Goals video will be shown on the New York stadium big screen in which young people interviewed players on how they take care of various aspects of their mental health.
