Emergency evacuation quick guide

The evacuation procedure for bariatric patients is no different from the evacuation procedures for non-bariatric patients in accordance with the trustsĀ fire safety policy and procedure.

  • Initial risk assessment and personal emergency evacuation plan (PEEP) should be completed. Initial risk assessment and personal emergency evacuation plan (PEEP) forms.
  • Are the premises suitable to allow the evacuation of a bariatric bed?
  • The fire safety advisor and Health and Safety team should always be consulted (seeĀ directory of specialist advisors).
  • What additional number of colleagues would be required for moving and handling in an emergency?
  • Only one bariatric patient should occupy a single fire compartment.
  • Bariatric patients should only occupy the ground floor area of a multi-story building.
