Wheelchair provision guide
NHS Doncaster wheelchair provision includes:
Do
- provide wheelchairs to meet basic mobility need, with necessary postural and pressure care components
- provide manual (non-powered) wheelchairs
- provide indoor and indoor outdoor powered wheelchairs controlled by the occupant including special controls
- provide bespoke and custom-made special seating where required
- provide the option of a personal wheelchair budget for patients that meet the criteria
Don't
- do not provide for school use only, the education authority funds this
- do not provide for work use only, the Access to Work scheme funds this
- do not provide for sporting activities only
- do not provide in place of suitable static seating
- do not provide for transportation purposes only
- do not provide for children who fit in a standard retail buggy
- do not provide to manage behaviour in someone who can walk
- do not provide for as a form of restraint
- do not provide electric wheelchairs for outdoor use only
- do not provide manual wheelchairs for occasional outdoor use
- do not provide dual control powered wheelchairs
- do not provide attendant controlled wheelchairs
- do not provide short term loan wheelchairs
- do not provide for rehabilitation use only, equipment is offered after rehabilitation for long-term needs (over 6 months)
- do not provide in care settings unless it enables independent mobility or specialist equipment is needed
- do not provide trays unless needed for posture
- do not provide for prison unless it supports independent mobility
- do not provide if National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines have not been followed

CareCo supplies affordable mobility aids and daily living equipment to help you stay active and comfortable at home and outdoors.
We would advise that you check the weight limit and if anything bespoke or any concerns use a recognised mobility shop or supplier and ask for two opinions.
