Child and adolescent intellectual disabilities is a service based in Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire.
How we can help
The intellectual disabilities service which is part of the child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) is a specialist service which assesses and treats children and young people aged 0 to 19.
We provide a service to children who have a significant intellectual disability and additional complex behavioural or mental health needs.
The service treats children and young people with intellectual disabilities and can help with:
- challenging behaviour
- emotional difficulties
- mental health problems
The service offers a range of interventions including:
- assessment of skills, strengths and specific difficulties
- neuro-developmental assessments
- autistic spectrum condition (ASC)
- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- psychiatric assessment and medication
- behaviour management advice and interventions
- counselling for young people and parents
- psycho-education
- art therapy
- cognitive behavioural therapy
- Theraplay
- sensory profiling
- training in intellectual disabilities and mental health or developmental problems
- group work
- family work
How to get help
We accept referrals to the service from children and young people who are:
- between the ages of 5 and 18
- have a significant intellectual disability
- display severe challenging behaviour or mental health problems that require the input of a specialist provision
- a resident or registered with a GP in the area of the service
