Heart failure and arrhythmia specialist nursing
Located in Doncaster.
The heart failure and arrhythmia service is run by specialist nurses. The service supports patients who have irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and those whose heart scans (echocardiograms) show their heart’s left side is not pumping well, a condition called left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD).
How we can help
We use 24-hour heart monitors to check for irregular heartbeats if patients have symptoms such as a fast or fluttering heart.
Our healthcare assistants help with:
- putting on 24-hour heart monitors
- doing heart tests called electrocardiograms (ECGs)
- checking blood pressure
- taking blood samples
- general health checks
Working closely with heart specialists at local trusts, we assess the patient’s symptoms carefully and prescribe the right medicines based on medical evidence.
We can provide assessments in a clinic or at home, most are face to face, but they can be carried out over the phone when appropriate.
If needed, we can refer patients with heart failure or irregular heartbeats to physiotherapists for cardiac rehabilitation to support recovery.
Non-urgent advice: How to get help
If you have heart failure, your GP or cardiologist can refer you to us, especially if a recent heart scan shows a problem or your symptoms are getting worse.
If you’ve used our service before and your symptoms have worsened, you can also contact us directly to self-refer.
