Talking Therapies treatments

Our Talking Therapy treatments are evidence-based, which means that research has shown the therapy we offer works. Our treatments are also recommended by The National Institute for Health and Care (NICE).

Individual therapies

Low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy

Low intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) sessions are with a psychological wellbeing practitioner (PWP). They can help you to better understand your problems and learn how to control symptoms of low to moderate levels of stress, low mood, and anxiety.

Cognitive behavioural therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is based around our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It looks at how they are interconnected and how they can impact how we feel and what we do.

Cognitive behavioural therapy can help change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, helping people to cope with or overcome various problems.

Cognitive behavioural therapy is a goal-focused and active treatment, where you will work with your therapist to create tasks and challenges to complete at home. These tasks are designed to help you make the most progress during therapy.

Person-centred experiential therapy for depression

Person-centred experiential therapy for depression is a type of counselling that focuses on the emotions underlying depression. Together with your therapist, you will explore your emotional experience, helping you to understand and express your emotions more easily.

Once you have a better grasp of the emotions underlying depression and how these impact your thoughts and behaviour, you may be able to discover new perspectives or ways forward that you could not see before.

Couples therapy for depression

People who are depressed often find that their relationships suffer. Sometimes, problems in the relationship can lead to a partner becoming depressed or anxious. Couples therapy for depression deals with both the depression and the impact on the relationship. Sometimes, couples might struggle to talk to each other; meeting with a therapist can help to improve communication, which is a key part of a relationship.

Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing

Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is used to treat symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Interpersonal therapy

Interpersonal therapy (IPT) is used to treat the symptoms of depression. It looks at the link between depression and relationships with others.

This means it can be used as a treatment for patients whose depression may be linked to adjusting to significant life events such as divorce, retirement, loss or the diagnosis of an illness. It can also help people who want to develop healthier relationships or manage differences of opinion in relationships.


Workshops and groups

At Talking Therapies, we offer a range of workshops and groups.

Workshops and groups may take place in person or online. There is no pressure to share your experiences or to speak up in front of others. You can just listen and put your new skills into practice.

  • Stress buster

    Our six-week stress buster group provides you with tools and techniques to help you understand and manage your stress, anxiety, and low mood. Each session will cover a different topic.

  • Lifting your mood

    We know that movement is great for your mental health. This six-week group includes light exercise, alongside learning about low mood and strategies to improve wellbeing.

  • Overcoming anxiety

    Over six weeks, you will learn more about anxiety, managing your worries, overcoming fears, and develop problem-solving skills.

  • Wisdom and wellbeing

    A six-week group providing support and techniques around keeping well as we age.

  • Menopause and wellbeing

    A 90-minute workshop will empower attendees with information about a variety of menopause symptoms, plus tips on how to manage their wellbeing better during this time of change.
