Palliative care

Palliative care is the care of patients whose disease is advancing and not curable. The aim is to achieve the best possible quality of life by managing the effects of the disease.

The St John’s Hospice offer a range of specialist services to patients with life-limiting conditions and their families. St John’s Hospice offer the following services.

Cancer information and support

The cancer information and support service provides support for patients, carers and family members including those living with cancer and surviving cancer.

They work alongside other clinical and community services and are based at St John’s Information and Support Centre and in the Macmillan Centre at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, which provides a drop-in service.

Community palliative care

St John’s community palliative care provides expert advice and support to patients and their families or carers, both in their own home and at our outpatient clinic.

Counselling

St John’s counselling service supports individuals with a life-limiting illness and their families, offering high-quality, personalised care that addresses emotional, physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. It aims to empower individuals and carers by providing tailored support.

Day therapy

Outpatient clinic

Spiritual and religious care

The spiritual and religious care centre provides spiritual and religious care to everyone using the hospice’s services, whether on our wards, in the day therapy unit, or at home.

St John’s welcomes people of all beliefs and encourages individuals to express their spirituality or practice their religion in their own way.

Committed to holistic care, St John’s values what matters most to each person. We recognise that illness can raise emotional, mental, and spiritual questions, in addition to physical concerns. These may involve your health, life’s meaning, or worries about your loved ones.
