Child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS)

Located in Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire.

The child and adolescent mental health service helps children, young people, and families with emotional wellbeing and mental health issues.

How we can help

Our child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) support kids and teens in dealing with feelings of sadness, worry, or trouble.

Don't

  • do not assess or support autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • do not assess or support attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

For autism or ADHD services, please see the children’s and young people’s autism and ADHD assessment service.

Child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) has two main parts, getting advice and getting help.

Getting advice

Getting advice is the first team to see all referrals. They look at the information sent in and decide what kind of help a young person may need.

How getting advice can support you
  • We can offer short‑term “here and now” therapy to help you with how you feel right now.
  • We try to understand what might be causing your feelings or worries, so we can decide how to help.
  • We work closely with school nursing, with me in mind, and Talking Therapies.
  • We help you find the right people or services if we think someone else can support you better.
  • We can talk to other professionals who support you, to help them understand what you need.

Getting help

Getting help works with young people who are referred from the getting help pathway or from the with me in mind service. This team gives more direct support and therapy.

How getting help can support you
  • We can offer longer-term support with therapies that are proven to help children and young people.
  • We work with you to understand your feelings and plan support that fits your needs.
  • We give specialist support with cognitive behavioural therapy, cognitive therapy and family therapy.
  • We help children and young people who have learning disabilities.
  • We work with other services, like schools or health teams, to make sure you get the right help.
  • We can help you move to adult services when you are old enough, so the change feels safe and supported.
  • We can offer medication if it might help you take part in therapy and feel better.
